To designate a card as a Commander, add *CMDR* after its name, e.g.,
1 Giada, Font of Hope (SNC) 342 *CMDR*

For a Companion, add *CMPN* after its name, e.g.,
1 Zirda, the Dawnwaker (IKO) 233 *CMPN*

Manual Entry

For manual entry, list the quantity and name of each card.

If you want a specific art, include the (set code) and collector number, e.g.,
1 Sol Ring (MIC) 162

Moxfield Manual Export

To upload a decklist from Moxfield, first go to the deck you want.

Click on "More". Then click "Export". Choose the "Copy for Moxfield" option.

Paste in the decklist entry area. Remove any sideboard cards.

Archidekt Manual Export

To upload a decklist from Archidekt, first go to the deck you want.

Click on the 3 dots all the way to the left of the first card. Then click "Export deck".

Export type is text. Click on the dropdown below Export options.

The only 2 checked boxes should be "include set code" and "include collector number". Uncheck all others.

Paste in the decklist entry area. Remove any sideboard cards.

Welcome to SpellSpiral! By creating an account and using our services, you agree to be bound by the following terms and conditions.

1. Description of Service

SpellSpiral is a free-to-play, fan-made web application designed for playing the Commander format of Magic: The Gathering. It is an unofficial, non-commercial project created for entertainment and deck-testing purposes. Gameplay relies on an honor system, and players are responsible for correctly representing their actions and game state.

2. User Accounts & Conduct

Eligibility: You must be at least 13 years of age to create an account.
Account Security: You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account password and for all activities that occur under your account.
User Conduct: You agree not to engage in any of the following prohibited activities:
- Harassment, hate speech, threats, or any form of abusive behavior towards other users.
- Cheating, exploiting bugs, or using unauthorized third-party software to gain an unfair advantage.
- Intentionally misrepresenting the game state or your actions.
- Uploading or sharing content that is unlawful, obscene, or infringes on the rights of others.

3. Intellectual Property

4. Supporter Plans & Donations

SpellSpiral is free to use. We offer optional, voluntary supporter plans that provide users with cosmetic benefits, such as custom card backs and playmats, and an increased number of deck slots. All payments and donations are processed through third-party services (e.g., PayPal) and are non-refundable.

5. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account without notice for any violation of these Terms of Service.

6. Disclaimer of Warranties

The service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We make no warranty that the service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free.

Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information: When you sign up, we collect your username, email address, and a hashed version of your password.
User-Generated Content: We store your saved decklists and cosmetic preferences.
Gameplay Data: We temporarily store data related to your active games, such as game state and chat logs, to facilitate gameplay.
Usage Data: We may collect anonymous data about your interactions with the site to help us identify bugs and improve the service.

2. How We Use Information

To Provide the Service: To manage your account, save your decks, and enable you to play games.
For Communication: To send you important account-related information, such as password resets.
For Security: To protect against fraud, abuse, and security risks.
To Process Payments: We use third-party payment processors (e.g., PayPal) for supporter plans and donations. We do not store your financial information, such as credit card numbers.

3. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We may share data with service providers (like Google Firebase for our database and authentication) only as necessary to provide our service.

4. Data Security

We are built on Google's Firebase platform, which uses industry-standard security measures to protect your data. Passwords are encrypted (hashed) and are not visible to us.

Help / FAQ

Getting Started

How do I create an account?
On the main login screen, click the "Sign Up" button. You'll need to provide a unique username, a valid email address, and a password.
How do I create a deck?
Navigate to the "Decks" page from the main hub. On the left in "Create New Deck", enter a deck name and import a Moxfield or Archidekt URL of your decklist, or you can paste your decklist into the large text area. Click the "Create a Deck (Manually)" button for detailed instructions on formatting.
How many decks can I create and save?
Free users can save up to 10 decks and monthly donation supporters can save 20 decks.
Some cards are not appearing when I import and save my decklist?
When importing a deck, please view the decklist after you save it to ensure all cards are imported correctly. There seems to be issues with some specific arts failing to be pulled from Scryfalls API. If this happens, your best option is just to select a different art and import it again.
How do I start a game?
At the bottom, click "Create Game". A menu will appear for you to select your deck. Next, you will have the option to create a private or public game. Public games will appear in the "Find Game" lobby for other players to join or spectate. You can select additional parameters for public games such as brackets to help players find the type of game they are looking to join. Both private and public games create a game ID that can be shared with other players. They can choose to "Join Game" or "Spectate" by entering it in the "Game ID" entry field.

Gameplay

What are the Brackets in public games?
Brackets are a way to signal the intended power level of your deck so you can find a balanced game. They range from "Exhibition" (casual, pre-cons) to "CEDH" (competitive).
What is the "Stack/Priority Mechanics" toggle?
This is an optional setting for more advanced players. When checked, the game will use a formal stack and priority system, allowing for responses to spells and abilities. When unchecked, players resolve their actions freely.
Can I play other Magic formats besides Commander?
Yes, you can play other well-known forms of Magic the Gathering, such as standard or modern, but we do not have a sideboard feature currently, and a formats rules must be enforced by the players as we have no predefined settings for each format.
I can’t find (insert interaction) in the app, where is it?
While we did our best to include every perceivable interaction, Magic is still a complex game with many niche situations. I would highly suggest trying out the systems in a private game to get some familiarity before jumping straight into a public game. There are hot keys for most interactions, and you can find what they are in the game menu. Drop-down menus and right-clicking should be able to provide most of what players are looking for in terms of interactions. Double-clicking can be used to perform actions like tapping or drawing cards from the library. There will be times you will need to perform workarounds for interactions that we did not run into while testing. Also, please report any you feel are necessary and we can look to roll them out in future updates.
Sometimes there are delays in actions I perform, and I need to perform them again. Why?
Some actions are a bit more resource intensive and there are specific stopgaps put in place to allow for the action to be completed before allowing a player to continue. This is done to ensure the gamestate fully updates correctly without bugs or duplicates. Things like revealing cards to other players or moving cards from your library may require you to wait a moment while it updates other players' screens and the new library order. We appreciate your patience.

What devices can I use to play SpellSpiral?
The app is designed for desktops with 1080 and 1440 resolutions.
I found a bug! What do I do?
Please send a detailed email to SpellSpiralinfo@gmail.com describing what happened and what cards were involved. Screenshots are very helpful!
Another player was being disrespectful. What can I do?
You can right-click a user's name in the hub chat to Block them, which will hide their messages. For serious violations, please email us with the user's name and a description of the incident.
